Before you send it
The ones that come up on almost every first call. If yours is not here, ask it and you will get a straight answer.
What should I put in the message?
A paragraph is plenty. What you have now, what is wrong with it, and any date you are working towards. If there is a system it has to talk to, or a platform you are trying to get off, say which one and I can be useful in the first reply rather than the third.
Does the first call cost anything?
No, and there is no deck. Half an hour on what the site has to do, what you have now, and whether I am the right person for it. If I am not, I will say so and point you somewhere better placed.
How quickly will I get a price?
Usually within three working days of the call. One number for the work, what is in it, what is not, and a launch date beside it, written so you can hand it to whoever signs things. How the money works explains what the price covers.
When could you start?
I take one build at a time, so there is a real start date rather than an immediate one. It is usually a few weeks out. If your deadline is fixed, tell me on the first email and I will say straight away whether it is possible.
Do you work with clients outside the north west?
Yes, across the United Kingdom, and most of the work happens remotely. I will come to you at the start if being in a room gets the brief right faster, and after that a call every so often beats a meeting nobody needed.
What if I am not sure what I need yet?
That is most first calls. Describe the problem rather than the solution and I will tell you which of the four it is: a new site, a rebuild, an editor your team can use, or support for what you have.
